Auckland Art Gallery - Olafur Eliasson
Commissioned by the Auckland Art Gallery in 2024 for The Curious Ball in March, held in celebration of the exhibition of Olafur Eliasson. The Iceberg Dress was developed in response to Eliasson’s work The Last Seven Days of Glacial Ice. The piece draws conceptual inspiration from the fragmented, luminous surfaces of glacial ice, translating the form of an iceberg into a geometric, fabric-based sculpture.
Constructed through an origami-informed approach to pattern and structure, the garment forms sharp, faceted volumes that echo the shifting planes of ice. The design revisits Jenny’s own archival experimentation with sculptural folding and geometric construction first explored in 2015.
The dress was created using upcycled materials and hand-dyed silk, with the skirt incorporating repurposed veil tulle to create layers and volume. Through its material choices and sculptural construction, the Iceberg Dress reflects both the physical presence of ice formations and the fragile, transforming nature of the environments they inhabit.
